About us
Health and learning for every Nigerian child
StarHive Initiative is a health and education NGO working with communities across Nigeria, where a family's health and a child's schooling are closely tied.
Why we exist
Across Nigeria's cities, towns and villages, preventable illness keeps children out of school, and gaps in schooling leave families less able to prevent illness. Most programs tackle one side of that loop.
StarHive was set up to work on both at once: bringing health outreach and education support to the same communities, and using better information to decide where each season's effort should go.
Our mission
To improve the health and learning of children and families across Nigeria through community-led programs and better use of information.
Our vision
Communities that are healthy, learning and able to plan ahead for the challenges they face.
Our values
What guides our work
- 01
Community first
We start from what communities say they need, and work through local leaders, health workers and teachers.
- 02
Evidence-led
We measure what we do, share what we learn and change course when the data says so.
- 03
Accountable
We are open about how resources are used and what they achieve.
- 04
Partnership
We work alongside government, schools, researchers and other organisations rather than in parallel.
Where we work
We work with communities across Nigeria, taking programs to the places where health and learning gaps are widest.
Cities and towns
Densely populated neighbourhoods where clinics and schools are stretched.
Rural communities
Villages and hard-to-reach areas with limited access to care and classrooms.
Schools and clinics
The facilities where children and families already are.
